↓ ABOUT

She was strong, she was cute, she was quirky, she was… exotic. They moved in together. They had a baby. It wasn’t expected, their parents didn’t approve but they ended up together.

So begins the myth of Jason and Medea and so begin countless farfetched romances from the Greeks to 500 Days of Summer. In this dark and raw new play the boy meets girl story is turned on its head, dragged out and destroyed. The flirting, the pillow talk, the fights, the cruelty and all the way to the most horrific of deaths.

All About Medea will interrogate the trope of the manic pixie dream girl, examining our obsession and idolisation of exotic femininity. Medea is a woman taken outside of herself, valued and loved for what makes her different, new, exciting, and stripped of her normalising humanity. The play begins as a romantic comedy - familiar, comforting and cute - before the slow crawl of gruellingly mundane reality kicks in and our characters lurch towards the tragedy embedded in delusions of love. A soft focus wet dream becomes a blood drenched nightmare as we confront the horrifying worst case scenario that lurks behind every argument and disappointing romance.
